Steffon Moody: Iconic Vashon
Vashon Center for the Arts
First Friday Opening, October 4th: 5-8pm
Show runs through October 27th
Steffon's Artist Talk October 19th: 4pm

Long time Vashon resident, performer, and visual artist, Steffon Moody has painted his way around Vashon. Setting up his easel across from landmark Vashon sites, he has painted 30+ oil paintings as a visual catalog of scenes that make Vashon unique and identifiable.

These comprise the collection he is showing for his first solo show at VCA, opening Friday, October 4 and runs through October 27. Steffon will be giving a talk about his work, Saturday, October 19, 4pm (no charge).

Steffon painted this collection plein air, meaning outside and in public versus in a studio. Having lived on Vashon for 36 years, he has seen a lot of changes, but he is still impressed with how much has remained the same. The past and present sites and scenes interweave to make what we love about Vashon.

Steffon began his career as a visual artist at the age of 16, working as a theatrical set painter at the Muny Opera in St. Louis. He is currently working on his 5th mural on Bainbridge Island. He teaches drawing and design at DigiPen Institute of Technology; a gaming and animation college in Redmond, WA, and shows paintings year-round at The Lodge at St. Edward and has a BFA in painting from Washington University in St. Louis.

Artist reception October 4th 5-8pm.

Show runs through October 27.
